Joe and Honey Rodgers Christian Civic Leader Dinner

Monday, October 21st, Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena

Governor Mike Huckabee will join us as our keynote speaker.  Honoring a broad cross-sector of civic, church and business leaders, the characteristics of excellence, stimulating Christian leadership, promoting integrity and investing in people, are all qualities of the individuals who have received the Rodgers Award. Former recipients are Miles Ezell, Jr., Marty Dickens, Lee Beaman and Sam Bartholomew.  We are especially excited that Speaker Harwell will be the first woman to receive this prestigious award.

The Joe and Honey Rodgers Christian Civic Leader of the Year Award

This year our recipient of this award is Tennessee Speaker of the House Beth Harwell.  Speaker Harwell has demonstrated her faith publicly at various functions in Tennessee and has lived a life of civic service that has been more than exemplary.

Beth Harwell, is the first female Speaker in both Tennessee and the entire Southeast. Harwell represents State House District 56, which includes a part of Davidson County. Beth has been a strong advocate for victims’ rights, welfare reform and most notably, education. She was a primary sponsor of the state’s public charter school law, having been an advocate for charter schools for many years. A friend of small business, Beth was twice awarded the coveted Guardian of Small Business Award from the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB). In addition to her legislative accomplishments, Beth served as chair of the state Republican Party and has been awarded the Harold Bradley Legislative Leadership Award, the American Cancer Society Legislative Leadership Award, Champion for Children Award, and the Junior Leagues of Tennessee’s 2012 Legislator of the Year Award.

This year’s dinner, chaired by Rhonda Lowry, is scheduled for Monday evening, October 21st at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena with the VIP reception beginning at 5:30pm and the program at 6:30pm.  This event benefits The Operation Andrew Group organization and its United4Hope work, tutoring disadvantaged students in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.
