Prayer Groups – now focusing on May 7th

UnitedNPrayer hosted 2020’s First Quarterly Pastor’s Prayer Breakfast at The Cookery – Nashville. Ministry leaders united in conversations from all across the city. Pastors and faith leaders discussed challenges, insights and exchanged their perspectives.

Next, The National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 7th, is an invitation for all prayer groups in Nashville. The Honorable Bill Lee, Governor of Tennessee, The Honorable John Cooper, Mayor of Nashville, and Metro Nashville Chief of Police Steve Anderson are being invited to address the prayer groups.

The 2020 focus is to “Pray God’s Glory Across the Earth”. The National Day of Prayer annually unites people across communities and Metro areas. The 2020 scripture reference is Habakkuk 2:14, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”

Aaron Yusef Johnson, UnitedNPrayer Director, and The Operation Andrew Group (OAG) spokesperson shares that “small groups, businesses, churches and government offices all participate. God’s word can guide our prayers and influence our actions. OAG has co-sponsored Nashville’s 12 noon gathering for 17 years, coordinating with the Middle Tennessee YMCA and the National Day of Prayer Task Force. Together we intercede for families, communities, our city, our state and the nation.”

Meet at 12noon in the Bennett Auditorium, of The Southern Baptist Convention building, at the corner of 9th and Commerce St., across from Nashville Yards. Free parking is available. More details will follow.

The history of the National Day of Prayer tradition predates the founding of the United States of America, evidenced by the Continental Congress’ proclamation in 1775 to set aside a day for prayer. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer, and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
