First Coordinator Meet-Up of the School Year!

A few weeks ago, church coordinators from churches throughout Nashville gathered together for a time of professional development and collaboration. Ashford Hughes, Sr., Executive Officer for Student Success and Opportunity with Metro Nashville Public Schools led an engaging workshop focusing on an asset-based approach to partnership. Key takeaways included:

· Focus on the ministry of possibilities, not problems.

· Educating our students goes beyond the classroom and is a layered endeavor. Parents and guardians are the first layer, community is the second, and teachers are the third.

· We must establish the right practices to grow the right mindset.

· Oftentimes the people (including students!) closest to the issues have the solutions. It is imperative that we listen to them.

· Centering well-being leads to an overall sense of belonging for students.

· Every student has something to contribute. Be curious, explore with them what strengths they bring to the table.

We are grateful to Ashford Hughes, Sr. for sharing his time and expertise. Thank you to all of our coordinators who joined us, we always love to connect and collaborate together!
