Intergenerational Opportunities for Churches to Support Their Community

Summer has officially kicked off and many are getting their much-needed rest, vacations, and family time. Also, there are many individuals within churches who are giving up their summertime to give back to their community locally and/or at large. ClearView Baptist Church reestablished its partnership with Liberty Elementary School in February of 2024 with Church Coordinator, Nancy Goins, leading the efforts. Nancy wanted to know how the church could come alongside the school and support its staff and families. Liberty expressed a goal to have their playground beautified. 14 volunteers from ClearView Baptist Church gave up a day to serve at Liberty Elementary School to do just that.

The younger generation at ClearView Baptist Church rallied together to weed and shovel rubber mulch on a hot day in May. This project shows the intergenerational opportunity a school and church partnership can provide for the church by getting involved in its local community.

Every school’s needs and goals are different; however, what stays the same is the opportunity for people of all ages, abilities, and faiths to give back in a meaningful way that respects the separation of church and state. At United4Hope, we have the honor and privilege of being a thought partner and ally to Christian church partners giving back to public schools. We have seen opportunities for a church adult ministry (55+) to support schools during the day with mentorship and/or by bringing lunch to teachers, as an example. Also, as depicted in the pictures, you see a younger generation supporting the school during the summer and school breaks. The possibilities of how a church can support a school are endless.

If you are serving this summer for a school in MNPS or the FSSD, tell us. We would love to hear all the ways you are showing love this summer. If you attend a church that may be interested in supporting a public school in Franklin or Nashville, email us at united4hope@operationandrew.org.
